EU financial integration: Will Brexit accelerate a finance union, consisting of a capital markets union and a banking union? And will a closer integration of the EU supervisory authorities and centralisation of supervisory lead to reduced national regulatory sovereignty (note the EBA’s investigation into the Estonian and Danish regulators’ supervision of Danske Bank)? Should the EU develop a truly federalised financial regulatory authority, an SEC-EU? What is the lesson learned after the recent Norwegian waiver of sovereignty in order to transfer power to EU’s financial authorities. Professor Morten Kinander will guide us through these topics.
Market Abuse Regulation (MAR): Would Gordon Gekko have survived MAR? Trading or crossing the legal line – what is lawful and when do people overstep in the distinction between speculation and manipulation? Associate professor Kjell Jørgensen, who has investigated this area and has been an expert witness in several high-profile court cases, will illustrate this complex field.
Conflicts of interest: If you were to summarize the recent regulatory body that has come out of EU after the financial crisis with one phrase, conflicts of interest would be a clear candidate. Professor Morten Kinander, who, besides being a Dr. Juris, also holds a Master in Philosophy, will show us examples and research, also from a non-financial/legal angle, and discuss whether the regulation of conflicts of interest is — or can be — successful.
In addition, Managing Director Sindre Støer of the Norwegian Securities Dealers Association will comment on the two last items above. A panel is also planned.
